FAQs: Meeting Role Requirements

For each Path you pursue, you are required to fulfill these four meeting roles before you advance to Level 4: General Evaluator, speech evaluator, Toastmaster and Topicsmaster.

These are worthy requirements for completing a Path. Meeting roles add value to your learning experience and help you improve your communication and leadership skills.

I'm bringing up the topic because it isn't so obvious when you march through the projects in your transcript that this requirement exists.  You may be surprised when you launch your Level 3 instruction document to close the level and it says. " ... Also, confirm that you have fulfilled the meeting roles required to advance to Level 4: General Evaluator, speech evaluator, Toastmaster and Topicsmaster".

The topic also comes up from members that joined Toastmasters prior to the Pathways launch and were working through the Competent Leadership manual they received along with the Competent Communication manual when they started. This "CL" manual focused on the meeting roles.  Members ask about meeting roles in Pathways because of that manual.

There is a FAQ resource about Meeting Role Requirements for Pathways.  This PDF specifies the requirement and is available to you in a few places.

This is it for Pathways, there is no specific "credit" for being the Ah Counter, Timer, or Grammarian in Pathways.  These roles are still important for your meetings, your club culture, and your Toastmasters learning experience.

To find the PDF, I like to direct you to the far left blue tile on the Base Camp home page, "Navigating Base Camp".  When you scroll down on this page you get to several FAQ resources.  FAQs: Meeting Role Requirements is one of them.

The PDF FAQs: Meeting Role Requirements is also available via the search box, From the menu for Resources and Tutorials you'll find it under the Subject/Frequently Asked Questions.  You'll also find a link to it at the top of your personal Base Camp profile.  It is associated to your profile because your profile includes the option to record the dates you filled a meeting role.  The idea here is that it may help your Base Camp Manager approve your Level 3 completion request by seeing the date for the last time you fulfilled each of these required roles.  There is a tutorial, "Tracking Your Meeting Roles" that indicates how to do this.  However, the FAQs: Meeting Role Requirements PDF describes this part too.

In the Level 1 project for every path, "Evaluation and Feedback", you'll be a speech evaluator to complete that project.  There is also a project, "Active Listening" that applies to your TableTopics Master role. It is a required Level 2 project in three of the Paths (MS, PI, TC) and is an available Level 3 elective in all the other Paths.

Work with your VP-Education or the delegate that assigns meeting roles to make sure you serve in these required meeting roles in a timely fashion along with your other work in your Pathways projects prior to Level 4.

I do find it odd that the email notification sent to the Base Camp Manager for the Level 3 approval does not remind the manager of this requirement.
